Caillebotte at the Kimbell Art Museum
Over the holidays I visited three of the greater Art Museums in all of America. Fort Worth boasts three significant museums within a few block's radius in what's aptly called the Arts District. I will be presenting each in three upcoming posts including this, featuring the Kimbell Art Museum.
-Run by the Kimbell Art Foundation with the statute to 'acquire and retain works of “definitive excellence”—works that define an artist or type regardless of medium, period, or school of origin.'
-Opened 1972
-Architect, Louis Kahn
The Exhibit, 'Gustave Caillebotte: The Painter's Eye'
Gustave Caillebotte is the lesser known Impressionist. Contemporary with Monet, Pissarro and Renoir, Gustave was a major enabler of the Impressionist artist and the movement as a whole. He came from wealth and was able to focus his attentions on painting and supporting the Impressionist cause.
Caillebotte's body of work was new to me and I now I think that he is my favorite of all the Impressionists. See a key selection of works by Caillebotte, below.
The Kimbell does not allow photography inside the exhibit but they did have these huge and gorgeous prints of Caillebotte's paintings in the Renzo Piano Pavilion lobby.
It was a joy to play a part in these paintings that I have now come to love.
My intent here is not to give a complete synopsis of the artist or an in depth take on the Museum but to make an introduction, one that hopefully entreats you to discover more about this important artist and institution. Get a quick, but more in depth overview here- Gustave Caillebotte, and here- Kimbell Art Museum.

Ruth and I love visiting the beach in Grand Haven, MI, where we are living for several months in 2016. Lake Michigan expands infinitely into the horizon, waves crash indiscriminately and the sunsets are other-worldly.

This day was our first opportunity to walk along the pier in Grand Haven. Inclement weather and high winds previously kept us along the shoreline. I even did a little dance in the pools of water at the end of the pier.
The occasion was also my first time wearing my newly beloved Andrés Sendra shoes out into the world. It was a bit sad to scuff the glossy finished of the soles, but such is life for man and life for shoes. Nothing can stay perfect forever and to enjoy what the world has to offer soles must be scuffed.
Against the sunset glow of the lighthouse my shoes contrasted in perfect complement.

First Snow of the Season
The snow has begun to fall in Grand Haven, MI.
Dots of white falling, landing gently on branches, collecting atop heads of hair, whirring past in a blur.

Staring at the waves, past the grey and into it you can see the infinite universe. The fence seems a feeble attempt at warning.
'Don't wander too far!'
Because if you aren't careful you could walk into the grey, past the waves, into the infinite universe.

In the snow there is beauty, especially when a gorgeous woman walks the white washed beaches of Grand Haven with you. Ruth looked so stunning with rosy cheeks and nose against a pale grey and white day.
Walking a round about path to Aldea Coffee. It's the best place to get coffee in Grand Haven.

On the Grand River
Ruth and I moved out to Grand Haven, MI for the winter.
Yes, I know the timing is horrible considering the fierceness of the wind and the precipitation along the east side of the Lake Michigan shore. But just imagine the potential beauty - Ice strewn, sandy beaches, white rapids along white shore lines, snow speckled sunsets on an infinite horizon.
For now, until the snow begins to fall, we are having fun on the docks and the beaches and watching the waves crash onto the shore, blue and grey as they reflect the pattern of clouds against the blue streaked sky.
