I Love Adapting A Look That Has Inspired Me…

‘As Hardy Amies said

“A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.”

This is one of the quotes I live by when shopping. It’s very rare that I buy things together. A lot of the time I buy items individually knowing that I have something at home that will work well.

For example, I have very few suits but lots of blazes and trousers that I bought separately. It simply means I can always have a new look with the same stuff. I also take a lot of care when choosing an outfit for an outing. It sometimes can take me two days to put a look together – but when it’s right it’s right and I always know it.

I like an outfit that stands out but looks effortless. I truly believe it’s a lot about ‘the man in the clothes, rather than the clothes on the man.’

'Finding a style that suits my personality has always been a huge importance to me. I love adapting a look that has inspired me, whether this be from the catwalk or something I have seen in a magazine and incorporating it into my everyday style.

Growing up my father was a tailor and my mother was a seamstress, so fashion was something I was always interested in from an early age. I was always fascinated with texture and bright colours.

When it comes to colour I tend to go with nature, I find nature always puts colours together in an interesting way. Most of the time, ways that us humans would never think of.’

I Was Sort Of Thrown Into The Water And Told To Swim

Story submitted by Quinton Brown

‘”Revitalizing culture in a world of trends,” is a quote that has refined my style over the years.

My style is similar to the teachings in architecture. Each outfit is sorted according to proportion and general “rules” of fashion. Along the way I have grown to appreciate and apply these values by adding my own twist and flavor. The end result has sparked a sense of hope that I can one day apply my transition from architecture to the vast world of fashion by establishing a luxury brand that pays homage to the rich culture in everyday living.

What inspired me to transition into fashion was the simple notion that appearance is a first impression. Being a business forward individual, I was sort of thrown into the water and told to swim. Once I noticed how easy it was to set my style apart from others, fashion became a dream of mine waiting to be manifest.

I am a student at Tuskegee University majoring in architecture. I was raised in Atlanta, GA all my life so NYC presented a completely new environment – mainly a crowd of fashion forward individuals. I liked the atmosphere and to help myself blend in I immediately went to buy my very first tailored suit with my earned stipend from my internship.

From that point on as I returned home, I took on a higher level of consciousness for business and looking the part. My style is similar to architecture because everything I wear now is well tailored and each garment or accessory is directly proportional to each other. This is what we are taught as architecture students- to always produce a well designed building or for fashion’s sake, a well put together outfit.’

I Was The Guy In Button Up Shirts And Blazers…

Story submitted by Steve Spencer

‘Men’s fashion is catching up with my style. I have always dressed different from the “in crowd”. In high school I was the guy in button up shirts and blazers mixed with denim jean I didn’t do whole suits at the time. I Eventually fell in love with Ralph Lauren polo shirts and earned the name “polo”.

I didn’t want to be known for wearing one brand, so I went back to button up shirts and blazers accessorized ties tie clips and the perfect pocket square. I’m pretty much obsessed with being a step ahead with attention to detail. I like high end fashion, but at the end of the day if you don’t have style all the money in the world and all the big name clothing lines won’t make you stand out… well at least not in the way you want.’
