‘My Own Personal Style Evolved Into What It Is Today…’

Story submitted by Brandon Butler

‘I am a native Texan, who never liked the stereotypical idea many have of Texans. You know the thoughts that all of us go around with hats and Cowboy boots accommodating our business suits, looking like JR from the sitcom “Dallas.” It was through this disdain that I feel like my own personal style evolved into what it is today. I always knew I wanted to have a professional job where I had to dress up everyday, but knew the hat and Cowboy boots look wasn’t for me.

I like to to view my own personal style as “preppy,” with the flare of a Southern Gentleman by thinking outside the box in my outfits, and pairing things together that many wouldn’t step out their comfort zone to do. It adds a certain “spice” to your life every now and again by doing this.'

'I base a lot of my outfits and colors off how I feel that day, because to me your own style is a direct reflection of your emotions at that time. Red for when I’m feeling bold, green when I’m feeling cool or relaxed, or black when I’m having a bad day.

I work as a tax accountant, another field in which the stereotypes run wild. I’m pretty sure you all have heard of the typical boring, dull, number cruncher, with no sense of style outlook of accountants. With my own style I want to break the mold of this view and have people say, “Accountants can be cool, and dress nice too!”‘

‘I Raid My Closet And Make Multiple Outfits Out Of One…’

‘My name is Sean McIntyre and I attend Manhattan College. During my sophomore year, I wrote a bi-weekly column called “Can I Wear That?” which showed pictures of different fashionable students and descriptions about their outfits essentials.

While writing this column I realized that college students want to be fashionable, but suffer from the lack of income. To avoid wearing the dreaded sweat suit, you can make numerous outfits from just one similar piece. When I hear my friends say, “I have nothing to go with this shirt,” or, ” I can’t wear anything with those shoes,” or even, “Nothing matches this,” I can go into their closet and find an entire outfit.

'1oeo, or 1 Outfit/Endless Opportunities, is where I raid my closet and make multiple outfits from one similar piece or pieces. You can make ten outfits with one white button down, or twenty outfits with one pair of navy pants, or an infinite amount of outfits with a pair of black boots. Each outfit differs from accessories, pants, coats, shirts, and so on.

All though my column has ended, I have continued 1oeo’s passion for changing the way a person can look at their closet by posting my daily outfits and adventures in New York City, both as a resident and an intern at “Cosmopolitan” magazine.’

‘It Was Interesting Seeing How People Would Combine Different Colors, Patterns, And…’

‘My style is determined by my feelings on that particular day. I was first introduced to fashion through many different blog sites. It was interesting seeing how people would combine different colors, patterns, and textiles to create an awesome look. That’s where part of my inspiration incomes from. The other half comes from urban fashion. I combined the two styles to create my own unique style. To me fashion is about self expression and I’ve found a way to do that through my style.’
