‘South LA Was Much More Than A Struggle For Me…’

‘Having been born and raised in a low-income, inner city community in South LA was much more than a struggle for me, a struggle that I continue to battle even with the privileges that I fought to acquire over the years. I knew ever since I was a kid that baggie pants and shirts were not going to open the doors that I aspired to walk, and at times, become the architect of, so I began to shape the style that best fitted my perseverance, accomplishments, persona, and grit.
It all began in my pre-teens, when I became a part of the Distinguished Gentlemen at my middle school in Compton, California. What shirt and tie seemed to the other kids as an obligation, I saw it as a way of using these “garments of war” as a means of overcoming the stigma that plagues my community and youth. It grew from there, and rather than to follow trends in fashion, I’ve developed my own to reflect the simplicity it had on the eyes as well as the complexity behind the articulation of who I am and who I am destined to be.
My attire not only reflects my taste in fashion: it is also a reflection that regardless of who we are, where we come from, and what we aspire to be, we are capable of overcoming that which comes through our destiny.’

‘I Wanted The Exterior To Portray The Interior Feeling Of Confidence…’

‘The background behind the picture is my wedding day last summer, definitely a day in which confidence is key in not only their style. My goal was an overall simple look sharp on the details; a custom three piece light
grey suit with ticket pocket, slim French-cuffed shirt, Jayhawk cuff links, some fun pink socks, and a blue-border pocket square complementing the slim pink tie.
I wanted the exterior to accurately portray the interior feeling of confidence I had about making one of the best decisions of my life that day, marrying Emily Prather.'
‘Fashion is incredibly fascinating in it being based solely on opinion–there is no black and white, it is entirely a gray area. Personal opinion, combined with encountering others personal fashion opinions both on the street and in publications, means we will always see new ideas and new products while at the same time old ones being reborn or reused.
My sense of fashion has definitely evolved, and the main theme I stick to now is a confident “Embrace the Lankiness” mindset when outfitting my slender 6′-3″ frame. This means slim-cut is what I look for when adding to my collection.’

‘My Pops’ Best Friends Were The Biggest Influence On Me…’

‘My Story comes from a small town, no larger than 5 miles, surrounded by rural farms and cows. A place where being humble and treating others in the ways you would like to be treated came as a way of life. Not much for high economy unless you were a farmer or knew someone who knew a guy, but the morals and values of life kept you up. My pops’ best friends were the biggest influence on me and my morals on life. They instilled respect for others in me and to have confidence in everything I do.
After high school I had the chance to work in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with my brother in law and his event company. Setting up events and parties for the wealthy and seeing the movie stars and celebs from across the globe. Being star struck for a small town country boy in the big city is an understatement! Being in this environment showed me a lot about style and taught me ways of making a look for myself.’
