'Style is a way of existence to me. Since I was a child I've been enamored with fashion. Growing up watching Dick Tracy and Tombstone and Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal I was amazed by the look of a fitted bespoke suit. I was raised in a Thrift Store so gaining a sense of style was second nature to me. My style is a reflection of so many Genres of music, film and entertainment.'

What is the Daily Fashion Project?

At nearly 200 Illustrations and nearly the same number of stories, after the first Daily Fashion Paper-Back and in the process of a second, and in the middle of organizing a series of gallery shows I feel that there is something missing.

The Daily Fashion started very simply. I wanted to paint more fashion and more people. I wanted something that wasn't just me 'styling' a look but something that shared the fashion that already exists.

In the very beginning we asked-
'What is your style?'
but that proved to be a rather vain question.

Then the question became-
'What is the story of your style?
but that still lacked any depth.

Now the question is
'What is your story?'
and in this there has been a subtle shift.

Fashion is not clothing. Fashion is people. Clothing just helps to tell the stories of people. Each of us has a story and these stories are beautiful and important

Our stories help us communicate with each other. When we communicate we have deeper understanding. When we understand each other we start to build friendships. When we are friends we have a real community.

What do you think of this mission statement?

The Daily Fashion Project is the stories of people through watercolor and written word.

He Started Believing And Changed Every Single Thing That Bothered Him

Daily Fashion Illustration 179. Friday, May 9. 2014

Story submitted by Juan Jose Rangel. -instagram @juancherangel

'Once there was a very sad fat kid crying every night to sleep, feeling sorry not only for his poor self image but also because he felt he was sinning for being attracted to other boys. He lacked confidence and only hoped for a miracle to happen to make him be what he wanted to be.

One day he decided he was tired of having a life he didn't want. He started believing and changed every single thing that bothered him. He found joy in exercising and revealed to his family his orientation. After he lost all the weight he noticed people found him attractive. He discovered that if he loved himself people would love him too.

All his life he secretly had a vision of himself as a fashionista, he knew that it was the right moment now with all his confidence to do what he always wanted to do…
This is me now.'
