I Began Thrift Shopping And That's Where I Found My Muse

'Growing up in a primarily Caucasian upper middle class community as a lower class girl was a struggle for me. Especially when it came to the clothes I was bought as a teenager. I always admired the couture fashion community and began to shape my style around the trends I saw in magazines through what I could afford.

I began thrift shopping and that's where I found my muse. The endless possibilities. By endless possibilities I mean, Every article of clothing has potential greatness . Just like any person has potential for greatness. It's just waiting for the right time and circumstances to unveil that greatness. I found the courage to unveil my true self even if it wasn't necessarily the name brands and styles that were only being worn by my peers. I feel like a stronger person now that I can show who I really am through my clothing.'

One Thing That I Noticed Is That Everyone Looked The Same

Daily Fashion Illustration 146. Tuesday, March 25. 2014

'I wasn't always into men's fashion. I didn't recognize my talent for styling until maybe a few years ago. I began reading magazines and checking out different fashion shows online and I decided to give it a shot.

One thing I noticed was that everyone looked the same. Usually I saw the traditional white shirt, tie (of any color), nice pants and some dress shoes. So I used that as motivation to make my style different from many and most importantly not boring! My style is simply based on challenging the norm. I like to push the boundaries by using multiple patterns along with color blocking in my approach. My journey with fashion lives on as I seek more companies and clients who need styling or brand consultation and advertising.'

My Story Begins With My Dad And My Uncle

Daily Fashion Illustration 145. Monday, March 24. 2014

'I am still trying to say truth, trying to be brave about style but it's clear that it is the way I show colors in me. My style story begins with my dad and my uncle who was living with my family when I was a child.

I remember these two gentlemen were getting ready for work like a ceremony; tailored suits, pure silk ties, perfectly ironed shirts, new looking clean shoes. It was interesting to see how they looked different from each other although they had the same kind of clothes on. I was jealous, because as a student I had to wear the same school uniform everyday and the strict rules did not let me add accesories or change colors. I had to be the same as others. But I observed my dad and uncle were defining themselves with their total look. I have learned the importance of the good shoes and stength of the good textile from them when I was young.

Now I am at the age they were and I see my style is something between classical and
actual streetwear. Furniture design  and architecture inspires me and maybe this is why I try to build my look as everything on me like one piece. I am still not brave about using accessories but like to play with colours and shades. I do believe less is more but patterns are my exception.'
