‘I’m Often Drawn To More ‘Afrocentric’ Pieces, Which Means I…’

‘For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been asked by strangers, “Why are you so quiet?” but as I’ve matured, I’ve been able to completely express myself through fashion. Fashion has helped me to easily communicate with those who admire my style. I’m often expected to be very sociable because of what I choose to put on, but I’m merely an introvert with enough confidence to wear unique pieces. I lack a loud voice, but my sense of style is loud for me.
I’m often drawn to more “afrocentric” pieces, which means I wear ankara prints and am often adorned with jewelry made of cowrie shells, wood, or bone. The icing on the cake?…if I walk past you, you’ll get a wiff of frank incense and myrrh or any other sweet scented oil.’

‘People Don’t Actually Know My Name, They Call Me November…’

‘I’m a fashion photographer based in Dubai. I’m always behind the camera shooting bloggers or editorial style photos. However, I am absolutely in love with simplicity & minimalistic fashion.
I LOVE monochrome and was introduced to fashion when I created my tumblr account 4 years ago. I was so inspired by all the beautiful people, and photography I saw on there that I started slowly experimenting with a new wardrobe, until I finally settled into my own personal style. I love street style photography, and how the people in it look effortlessly chic, and fresh.
Music has also inspired my wardrobe in a way! I guess I like to dress how I feel on that particular day, which usually ends up being either black or white. My biggest fashion inspiration so far has been Rihanna from 2013 up to now.'
'The name ‘Novemberus‘ was inspired from lyrics! (Mellowhype ft frank ocean) the lyrics went like “we fall out in the winter, September, October, novembering you.” I loved it immediately, I felt like November-you isn’t the name I wanted to go with. I wanted my work to represent the youth around me, everyone creative in the Middle East. I wanted us all to be one so I decided on ‘novemberUS’ because I didn’t want it to just be about me, I wanted to have some sort of a collaborative movement which Is why I’m always working with other creatives and I was born in November.
People actually don’t know my name, they call me November! It’s quite funny.’

Finding The Right Balance Between Style And Practicality Is Not Always An Effortless Task…
Story submitted by Lisa Wang

‘As a more-than-occasional, less-than-perpetual nomad, finding the right balance between style and practicality is not always an effortless task. As the head of marketing for the Asia Pacific region for a global financial firm and an avid travel/photography blogger (wanderandlust.com), I am constantly shuttling back and forth within and across regions.
Today my style reflects the multiple elements of my lifestyle: bohemian traveler, curious photographer, working professional.
With a mixed selection from thrift shops, weekend markets and runway, I like to think that my style today encapsulates the fluctuating levels of those elements. I find that visually articulating and evolving that personal boundary is an act of self expression that needs no words.’
