‘I always wanted to stand and express my uniqueness through my style and art. Over the years my style has evolved immensely. My style now can best be described as a melting pot of style. I draw inspiration from urban culture, bespoke, vintage, and ethnic backgrounds.

In regards to fashion I always wanted to stand out and be unique, and I was very artistic growing up constantly watching cartoons and movies always interested in the different outfits that were worn. When I moved from Boston to New York for School I thought it would be a great opportunity to expand my fashion sense. I drew inspiration from my friends that were really into fashion, and on the scene, along with the NYC lifestyle, and from there I came into my own.'

'Currently I own my own clothing line ‘First Flight NYC’, and our goal is to inspire and drive entrepreneurs and dreamers to pursue their dreams, and come into their own just as we have. Every time I step out what I wear says is a declaration of where I was, where I’m going, and who I am.’

‘Growing Up In Harlem, I Was Introduced To Street Wear…’

Story submitted by Jashaun Roebuck

‘My style has developed and changed over the years. From urban to preppy and now a mixture of both. My role as a school teacher has inspired me to show students that dressing up is perfect for any occasion. It gives an instant perception of success and achievement.

Growing up in Harlem, I was introduced to street wear at a very young age. Always checking up on the latest fashion blogs, Jordan releases and fashion icons. Harlem has always been a Mecca for fashion and I fell in love with it at an early age. Entering college I was introduced to a different world of fashion. St Johns University introduced me to a more preppy style.'

'Suits, ties, lapels and chinos were seen everywhere. It caught my eyes immediately because it was so different. I immediately joined the fashion club, and in 3 years I was a part of the executive board. I began to check daily fashion blogs that revolved around more than just street wear. Graduating college I have now begun teaching 9th grade history. As I dress for work everyday I get a chance to show students that the preppy style can be great too! Mixing my street wear knowledge with a more dressed approach I mix colors, layering and materials to show students just how great fashion can be on all levels.’

Story submitted by Michael Stark

‘Most kids grow up knowing exactly what they want to be when they are older and follow the steps to become exactly that. I have always been lost when it comes to figuring out my future and to be honest it scared me, it felt like there was a missing part of my identity and that I wasn’t complete.

It got to the point where I was getting depressed and developing insomnia all through trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.'

'Then I met my partner and she opened my eyes to the world of fashion! She showed me shows and articles that really inspired me, as I started to look into the various styles out there I turned my dull everyday work clothes into a fun lively game which gave me a reason to get up every morning! I looked forward to work and being different everyday, it gave me a whole new outlook on life!

Fashion gave my life more meaning and hope, I now know what I want out of life and I can never thank her enough.’
