Fossil Haywood Watch

Modeled after classic racer aesthetics with a cushion case and panda dial. The Haywood Chronograph couldn't be confused with McQueen's Monaco but the resemblance is certainly visible.

Fossil Haywood watch

Overtures of black and brown and tan leathers, motor oil heavy in the air, whirs of engines in ecstasy all around. You sit on your bike, you're soul ready for the freedom of open air, the transcendence of two wheels, a seat and a growling motor.

The Process

It all begins with a conversation. Almost always an email.

This email came from my new friends at Fossil. After working with Fossil on an illustration for the Aesthetic Guide for the Dapper Man we built what you might call a rapport.

I was asked to give my vision to three new watches from the Fossil menswear line. In a way, to tell their stories; their expectant journeys in life.

The first is Haywood.

I like the grungy, some might say manly aesthetic for Haywood. Definitely influenced by McQueen and the cafe racer aesthetic. Ryan, the menswear watch designer at Fossil went around to different vintage shops and antique stores to source his inspiration.

The patina of vintage items set the tone for the entire painting. In the video you get that feeling in the moment of washing the paper in a sepia/green tone.
