Strong Suit SS16. The John Singer Sargent Portrait

The John Singer Sargent Portrait

The SS16 Strong Suit look book paintings drew inspiration from the work of John Singer Sargent, known for his Portrait Paintings.

Of the six paintings in the look book, this one is the most direct re-creation. I wished to pull Sargent from the canvas to a new creation. This painting features the portrait of John Singer Sargent, the painter himself wearing Strong Suit SS16.

Where is home for you?
London, England

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Put me on a plane to Tokyo.

If you could only have one pair of shoes, what color would they be?
Brown. Wait! Do two-tones count?

Podcasts or audiobooks
Podcasts.

Extroverted or Introverted?
Extrovert.

If you were a dragon, what would you hoard?
Hoarding goes against everything I stand for.....well, maybe a hat or two.

Has one piece of art, literature or music helped shape who you are today?

I cannot say that there is just one piece of art/literature or music that has helped shape the person I am today, however I am continuously influenced and inspired by creative works. From the films of Wong Kar Wai, to the inebriated tones of Tom Waits.  Art, in it's many forms, still has a major influence on my outlook. It's all about connection.

If you had to choose a different career, what would you be doing?

Bar owner. I've always wanted to be the owner of a dirty little, 'no thrils', watering hole. The type of run down establishment were you get barred for ordering ice with your rum and coke. Country and blues music on constant rotation. Sticky floors and smoke to the ceiling.

Live Painting at Pitti Uomo 92 with Luciano Barbera

Sunflowerman sitting at the Luciano Barbera booth during Pitti Uomo with two live paintings

This was my first ever Pitti Uomo.

The sun beating overhead, beads of sweat falling all around and the most stylish men you will ever see. Pitti 92 was an elevating experience, spent meeting new friends like old friends, smiles everywhere, shutter clicks at each step and painting live in booth with Luciano Barbera.

For two full days I performed live at the booth, chatting with clients and passers by as the paintings took form.

In lieu of canvas we selected fabrics from the Luciano Barbera collection to craft the works of art. Linen and swimwear pattern played role of canvas. I love the message here. It's a bit subtle and definitely meta.

The fabrics of the collection are the fabrics on which I painted the illustrations of the collection.

The designs for the paintings were chosen by the Luciano Barbera community. Before the show we called out on instagram for people to choose from a selection of outfits to be painted. One of those people won a painting from the show.

To promote our collaboration I made this Luciano Barbera styled men's fashion illustration, which I absolutely adore! I've turned it into a commemorative print.
