I Knew It Was Time To Get Down To Business...

'I had wanted to start a fashion blog for well over a year, as I was already obsessively following bloggers from Seoul to Milan to L.A. After I became a fashion writer for www.joonbug.com, I knew it was time to get down to business. New York Fashion Week for Spring 2014 was one of my first assignments. Excitement and nervousness consumed me, as I was both in awe of the street style and runway shows, and intimidated by prices I could never afford.

As a student in New York City, I knew that I had a passion and keen eye for fashion trends and personal style. However, my budget didn't match the city I lived in or the events I was covering. My blog, which was originally an outlet for my creative spirit, became a streamlined place to showcase how I attempt to look very high-end without accumulating credit card debt. What was a hobby for me is also practical knowledge for the young and the stylish who are trying to simultaneously build their wardrobe and their savings. Showcasing New York City style on a student budget is the goal of my blog, but playing dress-up in one of the most amazing cities in the world is also just a fabulous hobby.'

I Would See That People Really Did Not Know The Basics Of Dressing

Daily Fashion Illustration 189. Tuesday, May 27. 2014

'It all started about two years ago. I was still in law school at the time and saw how people were dressing around me. Not caring at all how they looked. Then when I would come back home for a visit, I would see that people really did not know the basics of dressing. So my brother and I started Teaching Men's Fashion and as our motto from day one states, we try to change one man at a time. It has been a great process and throughout this whole process I have also learned a lot more about fashion.'

'I considered myself a versatile dresser, concerned with only one thing and that is "FIT." Big name brands down to thrifted goods, sneakers to shoes as long as the fit is on point everything else follows.

There is no other way for me to go around this venture into fashion other than accidental. Being a Respiratory Therapist, suiting up is not something that's required of me for work where I spend 70% of my time. However being a photographer and an artist, accidentally propelled me into an attraction for Menswear. The way you present yourself directly affects your business and it was a no-brainer for me to represent myself to clients in the most polished of ways.

So I started buying suits, wearing ties and purchasing shoes, balancing out my wardrobe which at one point consisted of only sneakers. Over the last couple of years this
evolved my style into what is referred to as an Urban Gent. This made me a very versatile dresser and I guess that's what people are so drawn by. As long as the fit is correct I believe you can be dapper in just about anything and it doesn't have to be a suit and tie.

I really don't consider myself a fashion guy and certainly have surprised myself when I've been invited to private GQ parties, seen my picture printed in a magazine, have had photoshoots with famed fashion blogs, etc....I get this feeling of "how did I end up here?" And I guess that's why I think of all this as sort of a cool "accident."
