Sunflowerman

Sunflowerman is a renowned fashion and watch artist.

After growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he lived in London, Milan, Paris, and New York, inspiring him to revive the lost art of men’s fashion illustration in a signature style. Sunflowerman works with clients around the globe out of his atelier in Fort Worth, TX.

As a menswear artist specializing in watercolor, my work is inspired by the intersection of fashion and art. I seek to capture the essence of men's style through the medium of watercolor, with a focus on the intricate details that make each piece of clothing unique.

For me, there is an inherent beauty in the way that clothing can express a person's identity and sense of self. Whether it's a tailored suit, a rugged pair of boots, or a bold patterned shirt, each article of clothing tells a story about the person who wears it. I strive to bring that story to life through my art, using the fluidity and transparency of watercolor to capture the texture and movement of the fabric.

My process begins with extensive research into a brand, product or style. Once I have a concept in mind, I carefully sketch out the design, paying close attention to every button, seam, and stitch.

Then comes the painting itself, which is a delicate dance between control and spontaneity. Watercolor is a notoriously unforgiving medium, and each brushstroke requires a steady hand and a keen eye. But there is also an element of chance involved, as the water and pigment interact in unpredictable ways. I embrace these happy accidents, letting the colors blend and bleed into each other to create a sense of depth and movement.

Ultimately, my goal as a menswear artist is to celebrate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into creating each garment. Through my watercolor paintings, I hope to inspire viewers to appreciate the beauty of men's fashion and to see it as a form of wearable art.

Pop Up Studio at The Watch Preserve

Visitors to The Watch Preserve, located at 1253 W. Magnolia Ave, can view the process of a detailed watercolor painting taking shape in real-time. Sunflowerman began painting watches ten years ago with his “100 Watches Project” where he painted 100 watches in 100 days and shared the story behind each watch. Since then his practice has grown, but his watch portraits still highlight the architectural beauty of watches while considering the rich stories behind them.

“A watch is a work of art that can be worn on the wrist. My goal is to capture the life and beauty of each watch,” says Sunflowerman.

Founder of The Watch Preserve, Nikolaus Libby, shares Sunflowerman's passion for craftsmanship and the narratives woven into each timepiece. The Watch Preserve, an established name in the world of horology, has recently opened its storefront on Magnolia Ave, focusing on preserving watches and assisting collectors in discovering their next prized possession.

"We're thrilled to host Sunflowerman's pop-up studio at The Watch Preserve. His artistry beautifully complements our dedication to preserving and celebrating the legacy of timepieces," says Nikolaus Libby.

The Watch Preserve is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and by appointment only on Sundays and Mondays. While live painting will be a regular feature, the schedule may vary. To ensure a chance to witness Sunflowerman at work, interested individuals can reach out to him on Instagram at @sunflowerman for weekly hours.
